The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is conducting a public meeting to discuss plans to preserve right of way along U.S. 10 — Amherst to Fremont — in Portage and Waupaca counties for future freeway conversion.

The meeting is scheduled to take place from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Waupaca Area Public Library, 107 South Main Street, Waupaca. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 6 PM. The remainder of the meeting will follow an open house format.

Currently, some sections of U.S. 10 are classified as “expressway.” Expressways provide access to and from the highway through interchanges, local roads, and private driveways. One of the study’s primary objectives is to preserve right of way for the future conversion of the remaining expressway sections of US 10 to a freeway. Freeway conversion includes replacing all at-grade, stop-controlled intersections with well-spaced interchanges, grade separations (overpasses and underpasses), and cul-de-sacs.

There are no construction projects associated with the study.

The highway will be converted to a freeway as mobility and safety needs warrant changes, and as funding becomes available.

WisDOT is seeking feedback and any information that will help the department move forward with the study. Adjacent property and business owners are encouraged to attend the meeting.
