Varsity Curling Team Takes Second

The Stevens Point Girls Varsity Curling Team concluded a successful season finishing second at the state high school championships held Feb. 18-20 in Wausau.
The team consisted of sophomores Suzanna Viau, Rachel Kawleski, Anissa Zaske, Krista Domaszek and Elizabeth Rubenzer.
The team finished the high school regular season 11-4 and were seeded no. three of 20 girls’ teams going into the state competition. In pool play they finished 3-1 and advanced to the semi-finals after winning the shootout tiebreaker.
They won the semifinal against a Poynette two-squad by the score of 11-4 and advanced to the final game.
In the final they faced off against an experienced Kettle Moraine team, coming up a few stones short of the win, earning silver medals. The team plans to return to state next year and bring home the gold medal.
