Point Dance Ensemble will celebrate its 17th performance season with a special performance that includes dance repertory featuring Transcribing Dance Company and by 2004 PDE alumnus Juliann Engum-Korpal.
“Excerpts of Dialogue from the Attic” is choreographed by Charys Hess, the artistic director/founder of TDC, and is staged by TDC member Celia Sweet. This movement narrative is an audio recording of Betty Blanke’s childhood memories that were recorded prior to Blanke’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
Hess is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Theatre and Dance program. Her multi-media and site-specific work has been showcased throughout the community.
Sweet set the repertory on the company members of PDE during a summer intensive that took place in July 2015. TDC is Stevens Point’s first post-modern dance company for professional dancers, founded in 2012.
Engum-Korpal, 2004 alumnus of PDE, choreographed “Cold,” a dance that is an embracing of the bitter cold winter. She is a graduate of UW-Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance. She recently opened Rapids School of Performing Arts in Wisconsin Rapids with her husband, Matt, in July.
Additional repertory includes original pieces selected from PDE’s Choreography Showcase 2016. Pieces selected include “Bangarang,” choreographed by Alida Richards; “Organic,” choreographed by Dominique Jamison, Terez Luedtke and Gabby Sroda; “Glam,” choreographed by Sydney Morgan and Martha Yenter; “Soften,” choreographed by Stana Luedtke; and “Drop the Game,” choreographed by Sydney Morgan.
Point Dance Ensemble’s company members for the 2015-16 performance season include: Alana Culver, Dominque Jamison, Byranna Kirsch, Sydney Morgan, Stana Luedtke, Terez Luedtke, Alida Richards, Ariel Seefelt, Gabby Sroda, Marissa Stolt, Kennedy VanderLoop, Julia Tutton, Sklyer Wachsmuth and Martha Yenter.
