For the City Times

The SPASH Chapter of the National FFA is the recent recipient of a $2,500 America’s Farmers Grow Communities Grant sponsored by Monsanto Fund.

The grant program, which launched in 2010, gives farmers a chance to win $2,500 donation for their favorite community nonprofit organization. Mr. Deloyd Slowinski, Portage County resident and farmer, was named the Wisconsin winner, and chose to award his $2,500 to the FFA because of his passion for agriculture.

The award will provide opportunities for students to sponsor service learning programs infusing agriculture in our community.

“We are so honored and excited to be the recipients of this award,” said Ione Hausler, FFA advisor. “We have a wonderful group of students who work very hard and are looking forward to putting these funds to good use supporting the programs they already have in place.”

Hausler said the funds will be used for agriculture literacy programs.
