Donald J. Gibbs

Donald J. Gibbs, 86, Waupaca, a Stevens Point native and father of an Almond woman, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Lakeview Manor in Weyauwega.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, with Pastor Jeffrey Fletcher officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King at a later date.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service.

Mr. Gibbs was born Oct. 17, 1929, in Stevens Point, a son of
the late Walter and Stella (Hopkins) Gibbs. He graduated from Waupaca High
School in the class of 1947.
He joined the U.S. Navy, aviation branch, in January 1948
and retired with more than 20 years of service in November 1970.
He was married to Marianne E. Verdon Sept. 19, 1953, in
Waupaca. They were married 61 years before she died July 6, 2015.
After retiring from the military, he had other jobs that
included Chain O’Lakes patrol officer, ITT Hamilton Corporation representative and school bus driver. And he retired as a maintenance mechanic 3 from the
Wisconsin Veterans Home in King in October 1992.
He piloted an ultralight aircraft.
Survivors include five sons, Jeff Gibbs, Weyauwega, and Randy
(Lynette) Gibbs, Brion (Pam) Gibbs, Dennis Gibbs and Bruce (Laura) Gibbs, all
of Waupaca; two daughters, Sue Davidson, Almond, and Michelle Roggenbauer,
Waupaca; one sister, Beverly (Carl) Hansen, Waupaca; 13 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Karch.
