Panthers, Coach Named Wisconsin Valley All-Conference

The Wisconsin Valley Conference has released its All-Conference selections for the winter sports season including boys and girls basketball, boys hockey and boys swimming.
SPASH placed five athletes on the boys basketball team with seniors Trev Anderson, Sam Hauser and sophomore Joey Hauser as unanimous first team selections. Senior Ted Kearney was named to the 2nd team and senior Jamison Kryshak received Honorable Mention.
Anderson and Sam Hauser were name the conference players of the year and Panther Head Coach Scott Anderson was named Coach of the Year. The Panthers finished the season undefeated and start WIAA tournament play this Friday at the SPASH Fieldhouse.
Anderson is the second player in the 95 year history of the conference to receive first team honors all four years and also the first WVC boys basketball player to be named Player of the Year all four years since the award was established in 2000.
Sophomore Maggie Negaard was named Player of the Year for girls basketball and a unanimous first team selection. Senior Taylor Beadles received Honorable Mention. Negaard led the conference with a 23.1 points per game average and 84 percent at the Free Throw line. The Panther girls finished the season tied for third place in the conference.
Forwards Brock and Cole Caufield were named First Team All-Conference in Boys Hockey. Brock Caufield is a junior and a repeat selection to the first team; Cole Caufield is a freshman. Receiving honorable mention for the Panthers were junior Goalie Phil Trzebiatowski, junior Defenseman Jarrett Jones and senior forwards Grant Czaikowski and Sam Medo. The Panthers ended the season with a 9-2 record for a second place finish in the conference.
Cole led the conference in scoring with 16 goals and 18 assists. Brock was second with 13 goals, 12 assists and led the conference with 3 short-handed goals.
Receiving first team honors in Boys Swimming were junior Zach Dahlseng (200 Yard Freestyle), and senior Ben Harris in the 50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Butterfly. Harris was also a member of the 200 and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams. He was selected as the Conference Swimmer of the Year. Dahlseng, along with Freshman Chad Franz were also members of the two relay teams.
Second team honors went to senior Jared Larson in the 200-yard individual medley, juniors Hunter Shulfer in the 50-yard freestyle and Daniel Hess in the 500-yard freestyle. Shulfer was also named to the second team in the 100-yard breaststroke and was a member of the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay teams. Larson received honorable mention in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Panthers ran the table finishing first in the conference with a perfect 8-0 record.
Panther Head Coach Bob Allen was named the Conference Coach of the Year.
