Carl D’s to Hold Humane Society Fundraiser

City Times Staff
Carl D’s Soft Serve has a history of being gutsy — after all, the business opened its doors last summer less than one full city block away from its competitor and longtime community staple, Belts’ Soft Serve.
But the business also has a history of giving back to the community. On Christmas Day the soft serve stand opened for five hours, giving away peppermint swirl cones in exchange for donations. That event raised $1,200 for the Salvation Army.
Starting Friday, March 4 at 11 AM — the same time as Belts’ seasonal opening — Carl D’s will begin its “Cones for Paws” campaign, with a goal of $1,000.
“We’ve got a bucket [at the window] for people to put their change in,” said Carl Debolt, owner. “We’re giving it all to the [Portage County] Humane Society.”
Debolt said he’s aware of Belts’ opening date — and that’s kind of the point.
“We’re hoping to take advantage of the crowd,” he said, adding the fundraiser will continue every Friday.
Carl D’s is located at 1232 Park Street.
