Ethel A. Hilmer
Ethel A. Hilmer, 88, Waukesha, a Stevens Point native, died
Friday, March 4, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Hunt, Texas.
Services are pending.

Mrs. Hilmer was born July 30, 1927, in Stevens Point, a
daughter of the late George Wherritt Sr. and Della Harris. She was raised with
her two brothers, George and James, on several farms around Stevens Point. She graduated
from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point in 1945.
She was married to Max Hilmer in 1948. He died March 20,
2015.
After raising four children, she returned to school in 1972 and
completed a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater.
She and her husband taught overseas in Nigeria, England,
Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil and Venezuela for 10 years.
Her travels included meeting the Queen of England and a
personal invitation to meet with the president of Indonesia.
She wrote children’s books and personal books for all nine grandchildren.
She and her husband spent their retirement years at their
northern Wisconsin cabin and traveling the country with their fifth wheel.
Survivors include four children, Max Jr., Kyle, Dean and
Heidi; and nine grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and
James.
