From traditional to modern compositions, songs focusing on how humans relate to one another and to the natural world will be performed by three choirs at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Friday, March 11.

The concert “Human/Nature” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center by the UWSP Women’s Choir, Concert Choir and Choral Union. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Mary Ellen Mitchell, Stevens Point.

The Women’s Choir will perform “The April Rainbow” by Farnell, “Night Winds” by Johnson, the Irish traditional “Bonny Portmore,” “Lullaby of Birdland” by Weiss and Shearing and “Happy” by Williams. The choir is conducted by Catherine Wilson, assistant professor and coordinator of music education.

The Concert Choir will perform “Sweet Suffolk Owl” by Vautor, “Contrapunto Bestiale Alle Mente” by Banchieri, “Il bianco e dolce cigno” by Arcadelt, “The Silver Swan” by Gibbons, “Im Wald” by Mendelssohn Hensel, “Jagdlied” by Mendelssohn, “The Peace of Wild Things” by Szymko and “I thank you God for most this amazing day” by Whitacre and featuring a solo by soprano student Aly Evans.

The Choral Union will sing “A Red, Red Rose” by Mulholland, “This Marriage” by Whitacre and three traditional songs, “Workin’ for the Dawn of Peace,” “Down by the Riverside” and “The Parting Glass.” The Concert Choir and Choral Union are conducted by Lucinda Thayer, professor of music and director of choral activities.

Tickets are $8.25 for adults, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25 for students and free the day of the concert for students with a UWSP student I.D.
