George C. Konkel
George Charles “Larry” Konkel, 87, Galloway, father of a
Rosholt woman, died Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in
Wausau.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, at
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galloway, with the Revs. Augustine Bentil and Rex
Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home in
Wittenberg from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.,
and at the church from 9 a.m. Friday until the Mass.

Mr. Konkel was born March 22, 1928, in the town of Franzen
in Marathon County, a son of the late Leo and Frances (Cherek) Konkel.
He was married to Viola Wendler Nov. 26, 1949, at St.
Michael Catholic Church in Wausau.
He farmed in the town of Franzen his whole life.
He also worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company in Wausau
and served on the Board of Directors for Wausau Mutual.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Konkel, Galloway; seven
children, Kathryn (Patrik “Doc” Vander Velden) Dahl, Madison, David (Sherri)
Konkel, Galloway, Susan (Paul) Buss, Eland, Alice (Duane) Burclaw, Rosholt,
Pamela (David) Backes, Birnamwood, and William (Sue) Konkel and Ralph Konkel, both
of Galloway; one sister, Lenore (Joe) Sprangers, Iola; 15 grandchildren; and 18
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Daniel,
Edwin, Lloyd, Benedict and Marvin Konkel; two sisters, Frances Clemens and
Lorretta Skalitzky; and siblings, Pauline, Helen and Norbert as young children.
