City Begins Tree Pruning

Motorists should be on the lookout for crews
City Times Staff
City of Stevens Point Forestry Dept. personnel are currently pruning city street trees along Main Street.
The city is responsible for all work performed on the trees in the right-of-way. Trees are pruned for several reasons; pruning them when young train them to maintain a strong central leader and sound branching structure — as trees grow they are pruned to provide sixteen feet of clearance above the street, and eight feet above sidewalks.
Dead, diseased, insect infested, crossing and rubbing limbs, and competing leaders are also pruned out of the street trees.
Anyone with questions should call the city forester, Todd Ernster, at (715) 346-1532. Additional information is also available on the city forester’s website at stevenspoint.com/forestry.
