Police respond to report of shooting
The Stevens Point Police Department responded to a call of possible gunshots at approximately 7:48 p.m. Thursday, March 17. It was later confirmed a gunshot was fired, wounding a 21-year-old man.
The man, who has not been identified yet, was found by the Berg Gym on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus. However, police believe the shot was fired in the 2700 block of Fifth Ave., Stevens Point.
“Ongoing investigations by the Stevens Point Police Department have determined this was an isolated incident, resulting from an altercation over a suspected drug deal that ended in gun shots being fired. The gunshot victim, a 21-year-old resident of Stevens Point is currently listed in critical condition. The victim’s name is not being released until proper family notification has been confirmed by law enforcement,” authorities said in a release.
