Stevens Point police say one man is in critical condition following a shooting on Mar. 17.
The 21-year-old man, identified as Deonta Lezine, is being treated in a local trauma center, according to a news release from SPPD.
Police say the man was shot at a residence on the 2700 block of Fifth Ave. Thursday night. He was later located at Berg Gym on the UWSP campus. It was not immediately known how the man got there. Police say Lezine was not currently a student at the university.
Police Chief Marty Skibba said Friday morning that his dept. was “knee-deep” in the investigation.
“Detectives were working through the night and following up on every lead,” Skibba said by phone.
When asked if police had anyone in custody for the shooting, Skibba replied, “Let me put it this way, if we had someone in custody we’d have included that [in the news release].”
Skibba added police believe this was an isolated incident over a suspected drug deal gone bad.
