A 27-year-old man faces charges of misdemeanor battery and strangulation after police say he choked a woman during an altercation in Wis. Rapids.
Zebulon Leavitt, of Stevens Point, is charged with battery, strangulation and suffocation after police were called to an 8th Ave. South home on March 7.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman and Leavitt had an argument inside a vehicle while driving home. Leavitt became angry, yelling and hitting the steering wheel.
When the couple arrived at their destination, Leavitt left the vehicle, grabbed the woman’s hair and dragged her to the ground, according to the complaint, also striking her in the back and head, and then began to choke her.
When officers arrived they observed Leavitt kneeling over the woman, and later noted a cut on her nose, a scratch on her chest and a bleeding knee.
If convicted, Leavitt faces up to six years imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines. His arraignment is scheduled for Apr. 8 in Wood Co. Circuit Court.
