‘Lights, Camera, Skate/Take2’ will continue successful tradition

Stevens Point resident Cassie Tudor remembers well the lights, the sound of her skates gliding across the arena, and the pride that filled her when she finished her number. Now, she’s passing the blades to her daughter, one of 137 skaters who will participate in the Crystal Ice Show’s 2016 “Lights, Camera, Skate/Take 2” next month.
“(I) wanted my daughter to continue the yearly tradition,” said Tudor of Stevens Point, whose daughter Natalie, 4, is in her second year with the group. “She loves skating so it worked out … she’s in our kitchen practicing every night.”
The show, directed by Lynda Schrader, will run at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 2, and again at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at K.B. Willett Ice Arena. Tickets are $6.50 for reserved seating and $5.50 for general admission for adults and children.
Tickets are available in advance through Wednesday, March 30. They can be purchased in person at 2470 Stanley St. Mondays through Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m., by phone at 715-498-2339 or online at cwtickets.com. Tickets will also be available for purchase at K.B. Willett Arena (west entrance) before the shows.
There will be 137 skaters participating in this year’s show and 54 in the opening number. It is co-sponsored by The Crystal Ice Figure Skating Club and The Stevens Point Parks and Recreation Department.
“I see the joy my daughter has, and it brings back a lot of memories,” Tudor said. Natalie will perform in the Tot 2 “Yankee Doodle” production. “I want her to be proud of herself and her accomplishments.
“It really ties together the end of the skating season where the skaters of all ages are involved,” she said. “The little kids really look up to the older skaters.”
With a “Movies” theme, each musical piece is from a well-known film, which will provide some extra fun for the skaters and the audience. Music and movies include:
“What I Like About You” from “Freaky Friday,” “My Favorite Things” from “Sound of Music,” “Make You Believe” from “Cinderella Story,” “Power of Love” from “Back to the Future,” “Jump in the Line” from “Beetlejuice,” “Come Fly With Me” from “Catch Me If You Can,” “A Little Party” from “The Great Gatsby,”
“It Had to be You” from “When Harry Met Sally,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” from the movie of the same name, “Through the Eyes of Love” from “Ice Castles,” “Spirit in the Sky” from “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Cup Song” from “Pitch Perfect,” “9 to 5” from the movie of the same name, “Return to Sender” from “Girls Girls Girls,” “Hold On” from “Bridesmaids,” “Too Darn Hot” from “Kiss Me Kate” and “Danger Zone” from “Top Gun.” Other pieces include the Stars Wars theme, “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”
“It is a wonderful performance put on by skaters from throughout the area who have been working all season to not only improve old skills, but to learn new ones,” Schrader said. “They really look forward to (it) … It’s a great family show for all ages.”
