Cynthia Lee Hummel, 60, of Wausau, passed away unexpectedly at home due to health issues.

She was born in Stevens Point on October 1, 1955, to the late John and Bernette (Bergeron) Hummel. Cynthia lived her life to the fullest. She was licensed in as an attorney, in 1991, in the State of Connecticut, with her Doctorate of Jurisprudence. She attended school in London, Malaysia and Ecuador. She practiced law in both New York and Connecticut. She was also the owner of “Arts, Books & Banter” in downtown Wausau.

Cynthia loved reading, dancing, art, music and traveling. She would go back and forth between her home and her neighbors so that they could paint together. She loved the rugged and picturesque landscape of St. Johns Newfoundland, Canada – a place she hoped to one day return and own a cabin near the water. She was even kidnapped during her travels in Kuala Lumpur but was released 24 hours later. Cynthia loved the theater. She was the co-founder of the River District Theatre Company in Wausau. She took her love of the theater to New York, and it was there that she produced the off Broadway play, “Naked Darrow.”

In 2006, Cynthia met her true love, David. They met at a party that was arranged just so the two of them could meet. On October 1, 2011, they held a ceremony in Waupaca, WI, and then held a legal ceremony in South Padre Island, Texas, on February 29, 2012, the exact spot David had proposed five years earlier. They were married by a minister in shorts and flips flops. They just celebrated their first “legal” wedding anniversary this past February. David loved Cynthia completely and will treasure the memories that they created together, such as the time they spent a week in Australia, staying in a tree house, 20 feet in the air, at a Koala Sanctuary.

Cynthia will be greatly missed by so many who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, David Kornegay; her children, Graham (fiancé Jackie Magee) of Orono, Maine, Noah (significant other Katelyn Faulks) of Minneapolis, MN and Holly (Patrick) Knutson of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren, Xavior and Nylah Knutson; brother John Hummel of Superior, WI, and sister, Patty (Rich) Middleton of Stoddard, WI. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and many special friends.

We will celebrate the life of Cynthia Lee Hummel on Saturday, March 26, 2016 from noon until 5pm at Brainard Funeral Home – Wausau Chapel, 522 Adam Street, Wausau. As many of you know Cynthia was not a fan of schedules or time constraints so there will not be a scheduled service. Rather, we will continue to celebrate Cynthia’s life with the stories and memories with which she left us.
