Richard George Koenig, 69, Stevens Point, formerly of
Madison and Rockford, Ill., died Sunday, March 27, 2016, at the House of the
Dove in Marshfield.


Services will be held at a later date.


Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield assisted with arrangements.

Mr. Koenig was born Sept. 24, 1946, in Columbia County, a
son of the late Wyoma and George Powell. He and his two biological brothers
were adopted by the late Lawrence and Marilyn Koenig. They were raised in Beloit
and South Beloit, Ill., along with their sister, who was also adopted. He was
baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beloit and later chose to follow the
Native American and the Buddhist paths. Richard attended Beloit and Rockton, Ill.,
schools, as well as Rock Valley College and Madison Area Technical College.


He served in the U.S. Air Force during
the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971 as a medical service specialist. He earned
the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Good
Conduct medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award and the Republic of Vietnam
Campaign Medal.


He worked various jobs during his post-Vietnam years,
including respiratory therapy technician and various manual labor positions.


Survivors include two daughters, Colleen (Gary) Wright and
Melanie Houseman; one brother, Daniel (Nicki) Koenig; one sister, the Rev. Tina
Koenig Ray; one stepbrother, Dennis (Debe) Barnes; and five grandchildren.


He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert; one
stepsister, Monica; and his longtime partner, Jessie.
