Laurel E. Sherman
Laurel Edward Sherman, 88, brother of a Plainfield woman, died Monday, March 28, 2016, at the home of his nephew, Russell and Debbie Nelson, in Rudolph. He was under Ministry Hospice Care.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 6, at The Chapel in Historic Fort Snelling in St. Paul, Minn., with Pastor Gary Mueller officiating. A military honors memorial service will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 2 p.m. in assembly area two.

Mr. Sherman was born Aug. 22, 1927, a son of the late John
Henry and Dora Edna (Chalker) Sherman.
After attending Plainfield High School, he joined the
Merchant Marines at the age of 17, working on a “Mother Ship” carrying supplies
to and around Antwerp, Belgium, and other combat areas.
When he turned 18 years old, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
He served overseas and became a military policeman. He received an honorable
discharge after World War II.
He was married to Phyllis Anderson at a Lutheran church in
Minneapolis, Minn. She died Nov. 17, 2002.
He worked as a sheet metal worker and was a member of Sheet
Metal Workers International, Local 10. He worked on many large buildings,
including the Capitol in Minneapolis. He was also a contractor who built new
homes in New Brighton, Minn.
He and his wife resided in Fridley, Minn. He remained in his
home until being transferred to an assisted living residence in Coon Rapids, Minn.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
United States, Post 6316, located in Blaine, Minn.
Survivors include one son, Danny Sherman, Minneapolis,
Minn.; one daughter, Cheryl Smith, Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Bette
Nelson, Plainfield; two stepdaughters, Lynette Anderson and Renee (Don) Blue,
both of Coon Rapids, Minn.; two stepsons, Paul (Laura) and Neal Anderson; six
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three sons, Michael,
Dewayne and Kenneth; three brothers, Delos, Dennis and Marvin Sherman; and two
sisters, Mirilla Bertotto and Leta Erickson.
