Letter: Consider Incumbents for Council

To the Editor-
With so many positions up for election this spring I think we often lose sight of how important it is to elect the best candidates to our Stevens Point City Council.
Although I have not served on the Stevens Point City council in almost a year now, I still follow the issues and often watch the meetings on the city website. Because of my interest in local government and my passion for Stevens Point, I have decided to endorse several candidates running in the contested aldermanic races.
To begin with, I am endorsing 8th district Alderperson Tony Patton. I have known Tony for many years. Tony has served our city as chair of the finance committee for several years and he has a great business sense and truly cares about how our tax dollars are spent.
Next, I would like to endorse 10th district Alderperson Mike Phillips. I served for many years alongside Mike on city council. Mike has served several terms as City Council President and brings many years of experience and outstanding leadership to the council. His leadership is vital when dealing with an inexperienced council.
Finally, I am endorsing 2nd district Alderperson Denise Mrozek for re-election. I have not had the opportunity to work with Denise, however from what I have observed, she comes to the meetings very well prepared. She uses common sense when voting and has the best interest of the city in mind.
Once again I encourage Stevens Point residents to do their homework on the candidates and don’t forget to vote, Tuesday, April 5th.
