Howard J. Wolfe, 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Whispering Pines Living Center in Plover, WI.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Junction City, with Rev. Timothy Roser officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Friday at the church.

A memorial is established in his name in lieu of flowers for the American Legion Hinek-Hertel-Krupka Post 468.

Howard was born March 3, 1924, in the town of Eau Pleine, WI, the son of the late Jesse and Meta (Buelow) Wolfe. He grew up on the family farm and attended schools in the area.

He married the late Johanna I. Bendickson on December 29, 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Junction City, WI. They shared 64 years of marriage before Johanna’s passing on February 1, 2007.
Howard served in the Army during World War II and was stationed on the island of Okinawa. Following his service, Howard and Johanna purchased a farm in 1947 on Highway H in the town of Eau Pleine. Howard worked this land until the early 2000s and he also worked for Consolidated Paper Company in the Consoweld Division until his retirement in 1986.

Howard was a long-time member of American Legion Hinek-Hertel-Krupka Post 468 of Milladore. He also served as an Emergency Fire Warden for the Wisconsin DNR for 56 years – a state record.
Howard will be remembered for his love of playing cards and cribbage, watching sports, cutting wood, eating sweets and drinking coffee.

Survivors include 10 daughters: Joan Clark, Kathy (John) Marchel, Jane (Chris) Grezenski, and Ann (Cliff) Wiernik of Stevens Point, Carol (Tom) Albert of Junction City, Betty Johnson of Plover, Danna Ward (Jeff Weisbrod) of Amherst Junction, Ruth (Jim) Jodarski of Berlin, Jeanette (Lenny) Moe of Reedsburg and Melody (Gary) Passineau of Evans, CO; 2 sons: Jim of Junction City and Jesse (Debbie) of Stevens Point, 29 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Howard was also preceded in death by his brother David and 2 grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Whispering Pines Living Center for their wonderful care this past year and the staff of Ministry Hospice for their care and assistance through the last few months.
