Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza was in Wausau on Sunday, where he announced his support for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
Sanders is a U.S. senator from Vermont seeking the Democratic nomination for president against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Wiza spoke prior to Sanders before a crowd of at least 1,300 at The Grand Theater. He said the purpose of government is about “trying to make the best decision for the most good”.
“Sometimes that bucks the system. Sometimes that makes people angry,” Wiza said. “Well, I suggest the system needs bucking. The right choices aren’t always the popular choices.”
Wiza said Sanders was the only presidential candidate whose views align with his own.
“I’m here to tell you there’s one man from Vermont, one candidate who shares my philosophy,” Wiza told a cheering crowd. “And come Tuesday, I’m filling in the circle next to his name.”
