Voters Hit the Polls in High Numbers

Thousands of local residents have already cast their ballots by Tuesday afternoon, according to local clerks.
City Clerk John Moe said he’s expecting a voter turnout of at least 50 percent. More than 900 absentee ballots were cast as of last Friday, he said, in comparison with 475 cast during the 2008 presidential election.
County Clerk Shirley Simonis said after an 11:30 AM analysis of municipalities throughout the county, the voter turnout had already hit an average of 40 percent.
“But that will change dramatically with the after-work crowd,” Simonis said. “Park Ridge always has a huge voter turnout, it doesn’t matter what election it is. But it just depends on the municipality.”
Simonis added the turnout in some municipalities could reach 80 percent.
