George H. Hanson

George H. Hanson, 69, Stevens Point, a former Stevens Point alderperson, died Thursday, April 7, 2016.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April, 13, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bill Menzel presiding. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be at Boston Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, and at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the Mass.

Schools or Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners.

Mr. Hanson was born Nov. 22, 1946, in Stevens Point, a son
of the late Gordon and Mary (Hoppen) Hanson. He attended St. Stephen Grade
School and graduated from Pacelli High School in 1965.
He attended University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) and
received a bachelor’s degree in business in 1969.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed
in Vietnam.
He was married to Joanie May Aug. 22, 1970.
After military service, he returned to UWSP and earned a business
administration degree in 1972.
He began his career in nursing home administration, working
in the Stevens Point and Colby areas.
He began working for First Financial Bank, which later
became Associated Bank, working in Whitehall, Plover and Stevens Point until he
retired.
In Whitehall, he co-founded the Vietnam Veterans of America
Chapter 45. He was also active on the Trempealeau County Board and Chamber of
Commerce.
In Stevens Point, he served as a member of the Stevens Point
Common Council from April 2005 to April 2009, Police and Fire Commission and
the Economic Development Committee. He also was a pollworker
in Stevens Point’s District 3 from March 2010 until his death.
He worked as a greeter at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in
retirement.
He was involved in beekeeping and marketed Hanson Honey.
He was a volunteer with Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners (W/NP),
serving as chair of the W/NP Finance Committee and a member of the shipping
process, picking up various donations and sewing machines and helping to load
containers.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Joanie Hanson,
Stevens Point; three daughters, Erin (David) Gregoria, Crystal, Minn., Shana
(Nathan) Thome, Wausau, and Jessica (Daniel) Bowers, Custer; one son, Colin
(Hatty) Hanson, Weston; one sister, Carol (John) Lagerquist, Green Bay; two
brothers, Gordon (Linda) Hanson, Arizona, and Robert Hanson, Indianapolis, Ind.;
and eight grandchildren.
