A Stevens Point man faces as much as 500 years in prison if convicted on 20 counts of possession of child pornography, a Class D felony.
Robert Edwards, 37, was arrested on March 16 after an Dept. of Justice investigation yielded evidence of child pornography in his John’s Dr. apartment. After executing a search warrant, police discovered multiple photographs and video files on a laptop at Edwards’ apartment, many depicting prepubescent children, including toddlers, participating in sex acts.
A thumb drive with similar images was found in Edwards’ kitchen cabinet.
In an interview with police, Edwards admitted he downloaded the pornography, then “moves the files to different folders” or to the thumb drive for viewing.
If convicted, Edwards could face a maximum of 25 years in prison and $100,000 in fines, or both, for each count. State law also calls for a minimum imprisonment of three years for each count if convicted.
Edwards returns to Portage Co. Circuit Court for his pre-trial conference on May 23.
