I-39 was closed down for about four hours Saturday morning after a caller reported four vehicles were involved in a traffic crash.
Dispatchers received the 911 call at 3:58 AM.
According to a news release from Sgt. Nicki Lukas at the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, a northbound pickup truck towing a camper was struck by a straight truck from behind on I-39 just north of County Hwy. W in the Town of Pine Grove. The impact caused the camper to break free and roll into the east ditch, where it came to rest.
The pickup truck drivers was able to pull safely to the shoulder of the road.
The straight truck flipped over onto the driver’s side and blocked both northbound lanes of I-39. A small car traveling northbound then struck the overturned straight truck, causing significant damage to the car.
Another vehicle, a Chevrolet 1500, then struck the overturned straight truck causing the straight truck to be pushed into the east ditch and off of the roadway.
“All of the vehicle drivers and occupants walked away from the crash,” Lukas wrote in the release. “Only minor injuries were reported to the deputies on scene.”
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Portage County Traffic Incident Management Team, Bancroft Fire and First Responders, Almond Fire and First Responders, Portage County Ambulance Service and the Portage County Highway Department.
The crash is still under investigation.
