Panther Baseball Blanks Wausau East

By Robert Whitmire
The SPASH Baseball team took advantage of sunny and warm weather Thursday afternoon to roll past the Wausau East Lumberjacks, 8-0, and improve their Wisconsin Valley Conference record to 3-0 at Bukolt Park.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at Wausau East but poor field conditions prompted the move and found the Panthers as the visitors on the scoreboard.
SPASH scored three runs in the first inning, three in the third and two in the fourth to put the Lumberjacks away.
The Panthers belted six hits against East pitchers including RBIs from Evan Mallek, Gus Turner-Zick(2) Trev Anderson and Nick Schroeder (3).
After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, Anderson reached first base on an East throwing error, then scored on long double to left field by Turner-Zick to start the scoring in the third. Schroeder stepped to the plate and belted a single to center field to score Turner-Zick and Evan Mallek hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring Schroeder across the plate and stake the Panthers to a 6-0 lead after the third inning.
The Panthers rounded out the scoring in the fourth inning when Trev Anderson hit a line shot to right field to plate Nick Strigel from second base. Jasmison Kryshak then scored from third on a wild pitch by East to make the final score 8-0.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday in a doubleheader against Green Bay Preble High School. Game time is 11:00 am at Joannes Park. The Junior Varsity will also see action Saturday in Green Bay at 11:00 am at Edison Middle School.
