Shirley A. Howland, 88, Stevens Point, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Nekoosa United Church of Christ, with Pastor Timothy Miller officiating.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service.


Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home of Nekoosa assisted with
arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.ritchayfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Howland was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Tomahawk, a daughter
of the late Leonard and Helen (Schultz) Christensen.

She was married to Charles Howland Feb. 14, 1947, in Wisconsin
Rapids. He died Sept. 19, 2008.

She was employed at Ore Ida Foods (McCain’s), retiring in
1990.

She previously owned Tri City Fur Foods and the family’s
mink ranch.

She was a longtime foster grandmother for the Stevens Point Area
Public School System.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Reynolds) Sorenson,
Nekoosa; one daughter in-law, Sharon Waldherr, Stevens Point; six siblings,
John (Elaine) Christensen, Kenneth “Tom” Christensen, Jim (LaVina) Christensen,
Carol Benjamin, Dennis (Kay) Christensen and Duane Christensen; eight
grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Jim Howland; one brother,
Richard “Popeye” Christensen; and one grandson.
