Carolyn E. Schmidt

Carolyn Elizabeth Schmidt, 96, Almond, died at her home of
natural causes Saturday, April 17, 2016.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30,
at the Almond United Methodist Church in Almond. Private inurnment will be at
the East German Cemetery in Almond at a later date.
Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. Saturday until
the services.

Mrs. Schmidt was born Oct. 18, 1919, near Illinois City,
Ill., a daughter of the late Frederick James and Trilby Marissa (Fountaine)
Doyle at their home.
She was married to Walter Schmidt July 25, 1939 at “The
Little Brown Church” in Iowa. They were married for 58 years until he died Dec.
17, 1997.
They lived in Rock Island County, Illinois, until they moved
to Almond in 1952.
Together they were interior decorators/exterior painters and
also farmed a 360-acre dairy farm in Almond.
She worked for the Burns family in Almond for many years and
continued working with her husband. After by-pass surgery in 1979, she held
various jobs.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church since age 17.
She was an escort driver for senior citizens for seven
years, and a foster grandparent with the Almond-Bancroft School District for nine
years (until age 92) with her daughter, Sonia, as the only “mother-daughter”
team.
Survivors include four children, Maxine (Jim) Jannette, Jim
(Carolyn) Schmidt, Pam Schmidt and Randy Schmidt; one son-in-law, Clifford
Morgan; one brother-in-law, Frank Bridge; one sister-in-law, Ida Schmidt; six
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sonia; six
brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren.
