McKinley Students Offer Earth Day Messages to Shoppers

Students from McKinley Center Elementary spent last week spreading the word about Earth Day.
First and second graders at the school designed Earth Day bags for shoppers at Sav-A-Lot on Church Street. Students dropped off the bags on Friday, then got a tour of the store by Manager Mike Johannes.
Bags will be available throughout Earth Week — April 22 through April 29 — and can be purchased at Sav-A-Lot for six cents each.
As the students were touring the store, they ran into Carl Debolt, owner of Carl D’s Soft Serve and Gourmet Popcorn, who was in the store to purchase strawberries for his business.
“He then purchased a bag, which he has hung up at his store,” said Terrie Aschenbrenner, who teaches first grade at McKinley. “Since Earth Day is April 22, students will continue to care for the earth by planting seeds, and cleaning up our school grounds and neighborhood.”
Sav-A-Lot is located at 3264 Church Street.
