Wisinski announces run for re-election as county register of deeds

Cynthia A. Wisinski, current Portage County register of deeds, announced she will run for re-election. Wisinski is a lifelong resident of Portage County who began working in the Portage County Register of Deeds office in 1986 and has been elected to serve as Register of Deeds since 1997.

If enough candidates file papers to warrant a primary election, it will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9. The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8.

During her time as register of deeds, Wisinski said she has continued to protect and preserve constituents’ real estate documents and vital records while dealing with tight budget constraints.

Wisinski has worked with legislators on several pieces of legislation that would better protect and serve constituents of Portage County.

Wisinski was instrumental in working with legislators to get bills passed that restricted Social Security numbers from being placed on public records recorded in the Register of Deeds office and removing Social Security numbers from those documents that are currently recorded and viewed on the internet.

Legislation allowing county residents to obtain a copy of their vital records regardless of where they were born in Wisconsin is another piece of legislation that Wisinski, along with fellow members of the Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association, worked to get passed.

After hearing concerns from constituents over the ongoing threat of property fraud, Wisinski worked with a vendor to offer Portage County residents’ free registration for alerts that will notify them of activity recorded against their name in the Register of Deeds office.

“It is imperative that our elected officials be knowledgeable and financially responsible stewards of the position that Portage County constituents have elected them to. I have a proven record of this and hope to continue to serve all Portage County residents,” said Wisinski.

Wisinski is a member of the Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association, Wisconsin Real Property Listers Association, Wisconsin County Constitutional Officers Association, the Wisconsin Land Information Association and the Portage County Democratic Party.

She currently serves on committees for Wisconsin Counties Association, Portage County Land Records Committee and Wisconsin Department of Revenue SLF committee and was recently appointed by the Wisconsin Department of Administration to serve on the Wisconsin Land Information Council.
