Alton ‘Tony’ Amundson

Alton “Tony” Amundson, 90, Iola, died Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Comforts of Home in Iola.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 25, at North New Hope Lutheran Church in the town of New Hope, with the Rev. Michael Peuse officiating. Interment will be in North New Hope Lutheran Cemetery in the town of New Hope, with full military honors.

Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the service.

Voie Funeral Home in Iola assisted with arrangements.

Mr. Amundson was born May 31, 1925, in Iola, a son of the
late Esther (Peterson) and Alfred Amundson.

He was married to Donna Stoltenberg Aug. 6, 1949, at the
North New Hope Lutheran Church in the town of New Hope.

He was a World War II veteran and served from July 1943 to
March 1946 in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater at Pearl
Harbor.

He worked most of his life as a carpenter, first for Harlan
& Harlan in Lake Bluff, Ill., building homes for 16 years and then for
Cooper Stair Company in Mundelein, Ill., for 14 years. While working for Cooper
Stair Company, he did the layout and installation of the exact replica of the
original staircase railing in the Illinois governor’s mansion.

After returning to Iola, he worked for Faldet Farms for 20
years.

He was a member of the Chicago Regional Council of
Carpenters, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8741 in Libertyville, Ill., and
American Legion Post 14 in Iola.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Amundson, Iola; one daughter,
Susan (James) Hardwick, Kent, Ohio; one son, Tom (Jean) Amundson, Lindenhurst,
Ill.; one daughter-in-law, Mary Amundson, Madison; seven grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Tim Amundson; and one
sister, Jeanette Olson.
