Auditions for pre-professional dance company May 7
Point Dance Ensemble (PDE) will hold auditions for the 2016-17 season from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, in room 154 of the Health Enhancement Center (HEC) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP).
Serious dance students, ages 11 to 18, are encouraged to audition. Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of two intermediate or advanced technique classes per week of ballet or modern at an area dance studio and have studied at least two years of ballet.
All area dancers are invited to audition. The first auditions, geared to dancers ages 11 and 12 will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The second audition time, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., will be for dancers ages 13 to 18. All applicants will be asked to fill out a brief form stating performance and training experience. Dancers should bring their dance shoes to the audition.
The 2016-17 performance season includes the annual performances of the Choreography Showcase 2017 at the Lettie Jensen Community Center in Amherst and the Spring performance in March celebrating the company’s 18th season.
The repertoire for the 2016-17 season will include commissioned music by Aaron Marx in a Civility Project collaborating with local puppeteer Pam Corcoran and PDE Artistic Director Pamela Luedtke. Guest choreographer Amy Beversdorf and Colleen Coy will also set additional repertoire on the company members.
In addition, company members participate in facilitating school workshops for elementary schools throughout Portage County. Visit the website www.pointdance.org for more information about Point Dance Ensemble.
