CAP Services 5K Walk will raise funds for programs
CAP Services’ 14th annual Take A Step 5K Run/Walk will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Pfiffner Pioneer Park Building, 501 Franklin St., Stevens Point. Organizers ask that those participating be at the building by 5:30 p.m.
The Kiddie K race will begin at 5:30 p.m. Those involved in that race should be at the building by 5:20 p.m. The Kiddie K is a 50-yeard fun run for children ages 9 and under. Age groups for the kiddie run are 0 to 5 and 6 to 9.
Registration begins at 4 p.m. Entrance fee for an individual is $30, a team of five is $25 per person, and an advocate rate is $60. The advocate rate pays for the individual ticket as well as one for a CAP Services client who otherwise could not participate. Online registration is available at capservices.org/takeastep2016.
All proceeds go to CAP Services’ Domestic Abuse, Sexual Assault Victim and Youth Services programs in Portage, Waupaca and Waushara counties.
CAP Services’ Family Crisis has been providing services free and confidentially for 38 years. Last year, CAP Services helped more than 850 clients “take a step” toward a brighter future.
Competitive runners are welcome for the 5K event. There will be chip timing for runners. Awards will be given to the first three finishers in each age and gender category, including 13 and under, 14 to 18, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70 and above. One team also will be awarded the Spirit Award, which is for the team that best champions the spirit of the event. Judging criteria include enthusiasm, attire and theme.
