Myron R. ‘Mike’ Wondzell

Myron R. “Mike” Wondzell, 81, Stevens Point, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at his home from esophageal cancer. He was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice and his wife.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the Mass.
He worked as a bellhop at the Whiting Hotel during his high
school years. After graduating from high school, he worked at Bake Rite Baking
Co. until entering the U.S. Army June 12, 1957. He served with the 4th Armored Division
in Fort Hood, Texas, and Germany. He was honorably discharged May 23, 1959.
He was married to Betty Minch June 4, 1956, at St.
Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milladore. The couple would have celebrated 60 years
of marriage June 4.
He joined Consolidated Papers in 1960 and worked at various
preparation positions and advanced to first helper, his position upon
retirement in 1994.
He spent time at the family cottage in Minocqua.
He volunteered for 15 years as a Eucharistic minister at
Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital and also served for daily Mass and funerals for
17 years at St. Joseph Church.
He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Holy
Name Society of St. Joseph Parish and also a life member of “Die-Hard Cubs Fan
Club.”
Survivors include his wife, Betty Wondzell, Stevens Point;
one brother, John Wondzell, Albuquerque, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Clair; and two
sisters, Ethel Molski and Elaine Mrarich.
