Vacation Rental Proposed for Main Street
City Times Staff
A vacant property on Main St. could become the location of a new vacation rental, if approved by the city.
Stevens Point residents Bill Schierl and his wife, Sarena Melotte, are requesting the conditional use permit for the property located at 1665 Main Street. In a letter to the city plan commission, Melottee said the couple is considering purchasing the property, provided they can obtain permission to use the building as a vacation rental.
Under city ordinance, the property will need to be classified as an Inn, meaning a limit of 14 days’ residence by quests. According to city documents, Schierl and Melotte plan to rent the 3,600-square-foot home as a single unit.
“The conditional use permit will allow us to utilize online vacation rental websites including, but not limited to VRBO (Vacation Rental by Owner) and Airbnb,” Melotte wrote. “It is our hope that structure will provide a means to keep the home in good repair as well as provide a beautiful historical location for visitors to our wonderful city of Stevens Point.”
Merlotte also said the property was being sold “as is” and requires extensive work.
The city plan commission meets at 6 PM in the Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street. The public is welcome to attend.
