The Friends of McDill will be hosting a junk boat race on McDill Pond this summer, bringing back an event which was popular in 1980’s Plover.

Paddlin’ for the Pond will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at noon. Boats will launch from the Patch St. landing. Race participation is open to the public and the entry fee is $25.

Boats must have a two-person crew with life jackets, and be constructed using only recycled materials, as manufactured boats will not be allowed. Boats also must be powered manually, as no electric, solar, gas, etc. methods of propulsion will be allowed. Boating will be slow/no wake on that day for the race.

Boaters are also advised to test their watercraft before the event.

Cash prizes will be awarded for race winners as well as the best-dressed boating crew. Proceeds of the event will be used to benefit habitat improvement and fighting invasive species on McDill Pond.

The public is invited to watch the fun and should bring a lawn chair or blanket.
