Robert C. Baumann

Robert C. “Trapper Bob” Baumann, 72, rural Shoshoni, Wyo., a
former Stevens Point resident, died of complications from esophageal cancer
Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the home of his son, Chad, in Shoshoni.
As per his request, there will not be a funeral.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday,
May 21, at the Shoshoni Senior Citizen’s Center. Guests are asked to refrain
from wearing black because he wants a party.
Davis Funeral Home in Riverton, Wyo., assisted with
arrangements.
Mr. Baumann was born Oct. 30, 1943, in Milwaukee, a son of
the late Clarence “Mickey” and Celesta “Shorty” Enders Baumann. He grew up in
Glenbeulah and attended the Glenbeulah Grade School. He graduated from Elkhart
Lake-Glenbeulah High School in the class of 1961.
He attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and
graduated with a degree in resource management. In college he was a member of
the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
He joined the 410th Signal Construction Corps Army Reserve
Unit in Stevens Point and served for six years.
He was married to Elaine James Sept. 3, 1966.
He started his career as a hydrologist for the U.S.
Geological Survey in 1968 in Merrill until transferring to Riverton, Wyo., in
1972, where they lived for 25 years before buying their retirement home on
Copper Mountain in 1998.
He retired in October 1997.
After his wife had a stroke that left her paralyzed on her
left side in November 1997, he became her caregiver until the last couple of
months.
He recorded many world records for sauger and brown trout
caught in Wyoming. He raised produce to sell weekly at the farmer’s market in
downtown Riverton.
He published a genealogy book on his mother’s family line
(Enders), with his research taking him to Germany.
Mr. BaumanN was an Endowment Life Member of the National
Rifle Association, a member of the Wyoming Trapper’s Association, Ducks
Unlimited for many years, and was a co-chairman of the Riverton Chapter of
Ducks Unlimited Chapter for four years. He was also instrumental in organizing
the Christmas tree project in Ocean Lake for fish habitat. He was a board
member for the Riverton Chapter of Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife.
He served on the board for the Shoshoni Senior Citizen’s
Center.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine, Shoshoni, Wyo.; one
daughter, Lori, Bailey, Colo.; one son, Chad (Kim), Shoshoni, Wyo.; one
brother, Richard (Janet), Lander, Wyo.; one sister, Jacqueline, Green Bay; and
two granddaughters.
