The tournament will be held from 8 AM to 5 PM in a city-owned parking lot just east of Pfiffner Pioneer Park. The grassy area at Pfiffner will be used for vendors and food kiosks.

As many as 7,000 are expected to visit the city for the three-on-three basketball tournament. Funds raised during the Gus Macker Tournament will be used for an indoor rec center.

No alcohol will be allowed at the event. Crosby Ave. will be closed to traffic during the event, which requires city approval.

The tournament is open to players ages seven and up. Four- person teams are matched with each other by computer based on age, height and experience and each team plays at least three times.

The original Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament began in 1974 in Michigan. Since then, the tournament has since hit the road and accommodates over two million players before more 23 million spectators every year.

For more information go to www.macker.com. Online registration deadline for the Stevens Point tournament is Aug. 22.

The event was approved by the city’s park commission in May; the public protection committee is expected to approve the road closure on Monday. The committee meets at the Lincoln Center, 1519 Water St., at 6 PM on May 9.
