Photo of the Day: The Best Arbor Day Planting Ever

The Village of Whiting is now home to 68 new Magenta Crabapple trees.
Saplings for the flowering trees were planted on April 30 in a combined effort between the village, the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources and the American Transmission Company — a utility under the Wis. Public Service Commission, which paid for the trees.
Village President Paul Stroik said the trees were planted on the south side of County Hwy. HH, which is a village-owned right-of-way, with help by local boy scouts from Troop 293 during the village’s Arbor Day celebration.
Tree shelters and stakes for the saplings were donated by Bill Horvath, who is a village trustee.
The trees grow at a rate of one to two feet per year and become mature at 20-25 feet in height.
