WPS: Tuesday’s Power Outage Caused by Blown Fuses

City Times Staff
More than 2,000 customers woke up Tuesday without power — the result, according to Wisconsin Public Service, of two blown fuses.
According to WPS spokeswoman Kelly Zagrzebski the fuses were located near Vivian’s Lane and Minnesota Ave. in Stevens Point.
“The original outage hit our system at 6 AM and power was restored by 8 AM,” Zagrzebski said, adding an early morning caller reported seeing sparks.
“When the fuses blow, they sound like a shotgun blast,” Zagrzebski said. “So that’s the main indicator of when a fuse blows.”
At its peak, the outage affected 2,300 customers.
