Walter A. Peterson

Walter Albert Peterson, 87, Amherst, died Saturday, May 14,
2016, at Theda Care Hospice Center in Waupaca.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, at
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, with the Rev. Donald Johnson officiating. Interment
will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Amherst.
Visitation was scheduled at Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4
to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the

Mr. Peterson was born May 22, 1928, on the family farm in
the town of Lanark, a son of the late Charles and Amelia (Sandau) Peterson.
He was married to Irene Kussman June 15, 1957, at St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Amherst. She died March 25, 2000, after 43 years of marriage.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He worked the family farm for 76 years and managed the
operation to the end. For a few years (after high school) he also drove a milk
truck.
He was the treasurer for the town of Lanark for 14 years.
He and his wife wintered in Arizona.
Survivors include four sons, David (Lenore) Peterson,
Scandinavia, Wayne (Julie) Peterson and Gene (Caroline) Peterson, both of
Amherst, and Lt. Col. Larry Peterson; twin daughters, Sharon (Tony) Kurszewski,
Amherst, and Karen (Roger) Wojtalewicz, Montello; one sister-in-law,
Dorothy Chich, Waupaca; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Roger; three
sisters, Ruth, Lucille and Fern; one brother, Harold; and one infant brother.
