Helen M. Gostomski, age 95, of Plover, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Hospital on Saturday, May 14, 2016.

Helen Gostomski was born on May 5, 1921 in Knowlton, Wisconsin, one of ten children born to the late Joseph and Anna (Ciula) Gorka. Helen’s mother died when Helen was a young child, after which her step-mother, Josephine, helped raise her. She grew up on the family farm in Knowlton and attended school in the area.

Helen married the love of her life, Edwin F. Gostomski, on September 27, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together. After raising her children, Helen worked in food services at UW-Stevens Point for many years. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Stanislaus parish. She served as a member of the St. Stanislaus Rosary Society for many years.

Helen enjoyed traveling with her husband Edwin, taking occasional excursions to casinos, playing cards with friends and relatives, and preparing delicious meals for her family. Helen will forever be remembered for her devotion to her family and her loving nature.

Helen is survived by four children: Dennis (Debbie) Gostomski, Waynesville, North Carolina; Lee Gostomski (Catherine Glennon), Plover; James Gostomski, Stevens Point; and Jeffrey Gostomski, Walnut Creek, California. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Margo (Tim) Jacob, McHenry, Illinois; Matthew (Tesa) Bohm, Waupaca; Melissa (David) Krueger, Rhinelander; Eric (Leslie) Gostomski, Williams Bay; Brent (Alli) Gostomski, Stevens Point; Kara Gostomski, Milwaukee; Katie Gostomski, Kaukauna; and Zoe Gostomski, Green Bay. Helen was the proud great-grandmother to Paige Jacob, Sydney Jacob, Dawson Bohm, Garrett Bohm, Sawyer Bohm, Abby Krueger, Sean Gostomski, Megan Gostomski and Alexis Schlotman.

She is further survived by her brother, Ervin Gorka, Stevens Point and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna; step-mother, Josephine; daughter, Cheryl Bohm; son-in-law, Robert Bohm; sisters, Cecelia Schaefer and Frances Chmiel; and brothers, John, Martin, Frank, Henry, Andrew and Norbert.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Shuda Funeral Home, Stevens Point. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established through St. Michael’s Foundation – Hospice Services.

The Gostomski family extends sincere gratitude to Dr. John Paulson and to the staff at Community Care Connections of Central Wisconsin, St. Michael’s Hospital, and Shuda Funeral Home. Your exceptional care and compassion for Helen and our family is deeply appreciated. Thank you!
