Two men face Judge Thomas Flugaur Monday for pre-trial conferences in unrelated child pornography cases.

Robert Edwards, 37 of Stevens Point, had been charged with 20 counts of possessing child pornography after police executed a search warrant at his John’s Dr. residence in March, seizing pictures and videos of underage children engaged in sexual activity on his computer hard drive. If convicted, Edwards could face up to 25-years in prison for each of the 20 charges.

Scott Szerlong, 42 of Merrill, has nine open cases in Portage, Wood and Marathon counties will several forgery and bad check charges, along with possession of methamphetamine and 35 counts of possession of child pornography. He was arrested for child pornography in May of 2014 at a Stevens Point motel.

Szerlong has also been tied to vehicle thefts, a burglary at B&D Equipment in Hatley and a separate Marathon County child pornography charge.

Szerlong was also associated with the late Christian Peterson, who was killed in a 2012 standoff with Eau Claire police after drug, gun theft, and vehicle theft issues in Marathon County.

Edwards is scheduled to appear in Portage Co. Circuit Court at 9:15 AM; Szerlong is scheduled to appear at 9:30 AM.
