flagFrank L. Jelinski, 96, formerly of Custer, died early Tuesday morning May 24, 2016 at North Crest Assisted Living Center, while under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

Frank was born October 4, 1919, in the Town of Franzen in Marathon County. He was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Burant) Jelinski. He attended Holt Grade School in Marathon County and the Chicago Technical College in their Building and Construction/Blue Print Reading program.

His marriage to Genevieve Dombrowski took place on October 20, 1945 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. His wife Genevieve, preceded him in death on April 16, 2014.

Frank worked for a period of time at A.O. Smith Co. in Milwaukee and for Haertel Monument in Stevens Point. He then worked as a carpenter for Ellis Stone Construction Co., retiring in 1974. Frank was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners Union Local #804.

Frank was a self-taught musician. He volunteered playing drums with the Chet Raflik Polka Band at area nursing homes and also played the harmonica. He enjoyed going to the Lincoln Center and playing cards and bingo. He loved nature, feeding the birds, gardening, deer hunting and fishing. Frank volunteered at St. Michael’s Hospital Oncology Department visiting and giving support to many patients. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, Moose Lodge and P.L.A.V.

He is survived by his son Richard (Kris) Jelinski of Stevens Point and his two daughters, Janice (Roger) Firkus of Custer and Joyce (Randy) Flisakowski of Amherst Junction, grandchildren, Shane Firkus, Shannon Firkus, Shelly (Jason) Ostrowski , Derek Jelinski and Alyssa Jelinski, great-grandchildren, Harleigh and Presley Firkus, Abrahm Reynolds and Hailey and Maycie Ostrowski. Frank was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Louis, John, Stanley and Bill, and sisters Frances, Bertha and Betty.

Frank was the last surviving member of his family.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 27, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. Rev. Gregory Michaud and Rev. Hilary Brezinski, nephew of Frank, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:30 A.M.
