Martin earns Eagle Scout designation

Shane Martin, son of Patrick and Kay Martin of Plover, earned his Eagle Scout designation, Boy Scouts of America’s highest honor, Sunday, May 1. Shane is a member of Troop 201, a troop chartered by St. Bronislava Church in Plover.
For his Eagle Project, Shane focused his energies on helping his former grade school, McDill Elementary, with playground improvements. Shane supervised more than 20 individuals to stencil and paint a map of the United States on the blacktop to be used for fun educational purposes.
Also added to the playground were paw prints for games as well as organizing students in lines to re-enter the school. A three-point arc and free throw line were painted to add extra fun for students to practice their basketball skills.
Shane also attended a pep rally to talk to the students about the project and promote scouting as well.
To receive the Eagle Scout rank, he successfully earned 40 merit badges, the Catholic Scouting award Ad Altare Dei, Most Outstanding Arrow Man of the Year 2015 recognition, served as vice chapter chief for Mushkodany District Order of the Arrow, attended High Adventure Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico twice and served as crew leader once, and attended the Florida Sea Base in the Florida Keys.
Shane has served in many leadership roles within the troop including senior patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader. He currently serves as junior assistant scoutmaster.
Shane is 18 years old and is a senior attending Stevens Point Area Senior High School. He plans on attending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the fall pursuing his dream to become an athletic trainer.
