Memorial Day Events Planned for Point, Plover

Local Memorial Day events have been scheduled to honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States military.

Sunday

Sacred Heart Church in Polonia, 7375 Church St., will hold a Deceased Veterans Memorial mass will be at 7:30 AM, followed by a march to the veterans memorial. The Pope John Paul II Post 185 Polish American Legion of American Veterans will participate.

Monday

The Pope John Paul II Post 185 Polish American Legion of American Veterans will also conduct a 9 AM memorial ceremony at the Casimir Pulaski Memorial on Main St. in Stevens Point. The group will then move on to Pfiffner Pioneer Park for a ceremony in Stevens Point.

The Plover VFW Post 10262, along with Plover American Legion Post 543, will hold a Memorial Day memorial tour at multiple locations on Monday beginning at 8 AM:

McDill Cemetery on County Trunk HH, 8 AM
Liberty Corners Cemetery on Highway J, 8:30 AM
Maine Cemetery on South Hoover Ave., 8:50 AM
Korean War Memorial at Lake Pacawa, 9:10 AM
Restlawn Cemetery on Highway 54m 9:40 AM
Meehan Cemetery on Highway 54, 10 AM
St. Bronislava Cemetery on Highway 54, 10:20 AM
Plover Cemetery on River Drive, 10:40 AM
Village Memorial on Post Road, 11 AM
Lunch will be served after the memorial tour at the Plover VFW Clubhouse, 2970 Hickory Drive.

The City of Stevens Point will holds its annual ceremony at 10:15 AM at Pfiffner Pioneer Park, 1100 Crosby Avenue. The UW-Stevens Point ROTC will provide two guest speakers. The Stevens Point City Band and American Legion Poppy Princess will also be in attendance.

A plane will fly over the Wisconsin River near the park and drop a memorial wreath to honor those who lost their lives at sea.

After the ceremony, the Disabled American American Veteran Chapter 30 Memorial will be re-dedicated just south of the park behind Chase Bank.

According to the National Weather Service, rain showers and thunderstorms are expected on Sunday, mainly before 1 PM with a high near 76 degrees. The weather on Memorial Day is expected to be partly sunny with a high of 81.
