Portage County District Attorney Louis J. Molepske, Jr. was elected by his fellow prosecutors as president-elect of the Wisconsin District Attorney Association.

Molepske was elected on May 18 during a statewide meeting in Green Lake, Wis. He ran against DA Kurt Klomberg from Dodge County in an election that saw one of the largest turnouts of prosecutors voting for a new WDAA president.

Molepske said in a media release that he ran on a platform of “unifying the prosecution ranks between elected and non-elected district attorneys in order to achieve pay progression and much needed representation before the legislature”.

“I am honored to have been recognized by my fellow prosecutors to represent them as President of the WDAA,” Molepske said in the release. “I look forward to representing elected and non-elected prosecutors before the legislature, the Wisconsin State Bar, and in all aspects of the prosecutorial profession. I will focus my efforts on addressing the number one issue of prosecutors which is lack of pay progression for our tremendously talented prosecutors who deserve to be compensated fairly.”

The Wisconsin District Attorneys’ Association represents 71 elected district attorneys, 27 deputy district attorneys and 360 assistant district attorneys in Wisconsin’s 72 counties. The president-elect is chosen by the 458 district, deputy and assistant district attorneys in Wisconsin for a term of four years on the 11-member board comprised up of elected district attorneys, deputy district attorneys, assistant district attorneys and a representative of the Wisconsin Attorney General.

DA Molepske was elected as the Portage Co. District Attorney in November 2012. Prior to that, he also served in the Wisconsin State Assembly between 2003 and 2013 representing the 71st Assembly District.
