Steve ‘Shorty’ Wilkinson

Steve “Shorty” Wilkinson, 60, Perry, Fla., a Stevens Point
native and father of a Stevens Point man, died Friday, June 3, 2016, at home in
Perry, Fla., after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD).
A funeral service was scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, June
16, at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Al Moen presiding. The
service will conclude with full military honors.
Visitation was scheduled at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. Thursday
until the service.

Mr. Wilkinson was born March 21, 1956, in Stevens Point, a
son of Mary Wilkinson and Thomas Jakubiak. He graduated from high school in
1974.
He served two years in the U.S. Navy.
He applied the skills he learned in the Navy as a mechanic
and a welder, and his work as a mechanic and heavy machine operator brought him
to Florida in 1983, where he worked with a company that specialized in building
swimming pools, traveling to Perry, Fla., to work on building the city pool and
deciding to move there.
He worked in maintenance at RDS Manufacturing and Tom Potato
Chips.
After his marriage, he moved to southern Florida where he
worked as a welder. He also worked as a boiler fitter for Foster Wheeler
Construction until he fell ill and could no longer work.
Soon after being diagnosed with COPD, he moved back to
Perry, Fla., with his wife and daughter.
Survivors include his wife, Jan; one daughter, Kimberly
Smith, Perry, Fla.; one son, Andy (Jen) Wilkinson, Stevens Point; his father,
Thomas Jakubiak, Stevens Point; three brothers, Terry Wilkinson, Michael
Jakubiak and Tommy (Marsha) Jakubiak, all of Stevens Point; one sister, Laura
(Maynard) Konkol, Stevens Point; and two grandsons.
He was also preceded in death by his mother, Mary Wilkinson;
and two brothers, Johnny and Jimmy.
