Richard E. Porubcansky

Richard Edward Porubcansky, 68, a former Stevens Point resident and Portage County Health and Human Services Department supervisor, died Monday, June 6, 2016, at his home in Milwaukee.
Funeral services will be private.

Mr. Porubcansky was born March 1, 1948, in Manitowoc, a son
of the late John L. and Elizabeth A. (Schlies) Porubcansky. He attended the
Salvatorian Seminary in St. Nazianz and graduated from Mount St. Paul College
in Waukesha in 1970.
He was a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War, and
performed alternate service with the developmentally disabled at St. Coletta’s
in Jefferson.
He also served as director of Portage County Health and Human
Services Department in Stevens Point and executive director of the Woburn, Mass.-based
National Spinal Cord Injury Association.
He worked for the Medical College of Wisconsin for 23 years,
retiring as an administrator in 2014.
He was married to his wife Sherry 38 years ago.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Matthew; three
brothers, Thomas, John and Mark; two nephews; and one niece.
