Plover native Joe Pavelski and the San Jose Sharks lost
to the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 in Game 4 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals Monday,
June 6, to fall behind 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Pittsburgh beat the Sharks 3-2 in Game 1 May 30 and
2-1 in overtime in Game 2 June 1 to take a 2-0 series lead, before the series
went to San Jose for Game 3 Saturday, June 4.

Pittsburgh scored 5:29 into the first period to take a
1-0 lead, but San Jose scored at the 9:34 mark of the first period to tie the
game at 1-1.

Pittsburgh struck late in the second period to take a
2-1 lead on a goal with 53 seconds left in the period. It stayed that way until
San Jose scored at the 8:48 mark of the third period to tie the game at 2-2 and
eventually force overtime, where the Sharks won 3-2 with a goal at the 12:18
mark.

San Jose looked to even the series at home Monday
night, but Pittsburgh scored at 7:36 of the first period and 2:37 of the second
period to build a 2-0 lead.

It remained that way until the third period, when San
Jose scored 8:07 into the period to pull within 2-1, but Pittsburgh scored with
2:02 left to take a 3-1 lead and went on to a 3-1 win to extend its series lead
to 3-1.

The final three games are scheduled to be broadcast on
NBC, all at 7 p.m. Central, with Game 5 Thursday, June 9, Game 6 Sunday, June
12, and Game 7 Wednesday, June 15.

Pavelski leads the NHL in goals this postseason with
13 and is tied for second in points with 22.
